This "basic" concealed carry class is for handgun owners who have (or have recently acquired) their carry concealed permit and are seeking to learn about the practical issues, responsibilities and the skills needed to do so safely. If you hold a concealed carry permit, this class will give you the opportunity to become more proficient and confident with your handgun, develop/practice the fundamentals of practical shooting and learn the safely and practical considerations of carrying a handgun.
Instructors: This class will feature two highly qualified instructors. Phil Fouche, a member of ACPC and Woodlawn, works for the NY State Police. Nick Kalinowski is a veteran whose ARMY career includes deployments as a protective service/executive protection officer embedded with a special missions unit currently known as CAG and, later, as a pistol instructor.
There are two parts to the curriculum: Classroom and Range work. Topics planned will include:
- Review of basic pistol and range safety fundamentals.
- Concealed carry responsibilities and obligations.
- Shooting fundamentals.
- Carry set up
- Drawing from concealment/re-holstering
- Trigger discipline / positive ID and backdrop
- Malfunctions and stoppages.
- Smart reloads.
- Cover vs. concealment.
- Accuracy and shot placement.
- Recoil management / "throttle" control
Note: None of the range drills will be timed. The priority of the class is on safety and accuracy not speed!
Dress: You should dress as you normally do when carrying since the focus will be on drawing and manipulating our pistols and magazines from under the concealment of shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, etc. - items in our daily wardrobe. A baseball cap and sunglasses should be part of your kit.
Supplies: You should plan on bringing water / lunch / sunscreen / snacks, etc.
Location: Woodlawn Sportsman's Club located at 3367 E Lydius St, Schenectady, NY 12303.
Date & Time: Saturday, October 14th @ 9:00AM – PLEASE BE THERE NO LATER THAN 8:45AM FOR SET UP AND SAFETY BRIEFING.
Class Size / Cancellation / Rain Date: This class is designed for a maximum of 16 people. Scattered showers will not cancel the class. A forecast of heavy rain or thunderstorms can move the class to a rain date (tentatively 10/28).

Cost & Payment: The total cost is $95 with a $25 deposit due once a minimum of 8 participants has been reached. A separate payment link will be sent once that minimum of 8 participants has been reached. Your $25 deposit will be required at that time. The balance of $70 due on the day of the class in CASH ONLY PLEASE!
Prerequisites: All students must have a valid current New York State issued pistol permit, understand and be able to successfully maintain all shooting safety fundamentals. Prior experience shooting from a holster a plus, but not mandatory.
Equipment List:
All students must bring:
- Semi-automatic pistol or revolver of their choice.
- 250 rounds of ammunition.
- Quality eye/ear protection and a baseball cap.
- Three magazines minimum with magazine carriers/pouch, etc.
- Sturdy belt and OWB or IWB quality holster. Please no flimsy, dangling or cloth/nylon holsters. Kydex preferred.
- Pen and notepad for taking notes and marking targets.
- An open mind, humble, willing to learn attitude!
SAFETY COMES FIRST! PLEASE, NO Blackhawk Serpa or Uncle Mike’s holsters. No Shoulder, Ankle or small of the back holsters. Strong side or appendix carry only.
Registration and Deposit: This course is limited to 16 spots. Although registration is 'capped' at 16, a wait list will be available to provide substitutions for any last minute cancellations - please register if interested.
